How to make an origami Kimono
Today, I explain you how to make the kimono origami to respond the request of veronica.
It's a little complicated so I'm afraid if I can tell you well.
(1)Prepare square paper and cut it in half.
(2)Fold it in half to make a crease and fold back.
(3)Fold a little to make a collar.
(4)Then fold the collar side to the center line.
(5)Turn it over and fold the collar side to the line that you made in the step (4), like this picture.
(6)Turn it over and fold it like this. The width of the bottom is a little wider than the collar.
(7)Fold to the back the other side in half.
The opposite side is like this.
(8)Fold both side to the collar, and open it, as shown in the following pictures.
(9)Fold the back of the collar to the back.
The opposite side is like this.
(10)Fold the back side in half to make sleeves.
The opposite side is like this.
You did it!
If I couldn't explain it in a good way, please leave a comment. Thank you!!!!

oooh these instructions are really clear! I could follow them easily...but my folding isn't as neat as yours, so my kimono looks a bit...lopsided. I think I need to use better paper!
Hi Clare, thank you for your comment!
I want to see your work.
O.K.! If you want, I can send you some pieces of papers and some samples. I have too many origami paper now...
I love origami. We are living on Okinawa and only have 10 months left. I enjoyed reading your blog and looking at your items on Etsy. You have so much talent!
Oh that would be so cool! I can send you something interesting back too - I love writing letters!
Here is the origami kimono I made...the picture is kind of fuzzy cause I used my camera phone. I think because I used one colour paper it looks a bit plain...
Thank you Blake and Hollie,
I'm happy to hear that. I've been to Okinawa only once, and only Ishigaki Island. But I love there.
Have good days!
Hello Clare,
Your kimono is so cute! I like simple one.
I'll send you some colorful origami papers. Please wait for a while! I love writing letters, too!
THANK YOU for very easy directions and great pics. I'm using these as table decorations in a japanese themed bachelorette party :)
Hello Pam,
Thank you for your comment!
I want to see your table, and what you cooked!
Thank you for this great instruction!! I was trying to follow instructions from a kit with horribly designed "Diagrams" that were confusing and explained nothing. This is greatly appreciated.

I just took my mother, sister, and daughter to see Itchiku Kubota's landscape kimono works in Canton, Ohio, USA. What a marvel, such beauty, and such amazing craftsmanship.

Your instructions are perfect.

Thank you soo much for sending the patterns. Years ago I made a longer version of an origami Kimono but made it with Asian fabric. I framed .them and gave as gifts. It was a gift that you do not receive often. What is HTML tag. How is it used. Do I need one? Rose
I will try this with my children, during the school holidays. It's lovely to craft together and to share with others. You are a creative person, Mai.

this was great, it took me forever to find a how-to for an origami kimono - these would make wonderful chopstick rests also
this is sooo not clear
i didnt even now what to doa t the end cause there were no words at the end!!!!!
never coming back....
This was so clear, I didn't even read the words! XD I'm a bit afraid of origami because I can never seem to understand the directions, but I did this in under a minute!!! どうもありがとうございました、マイルル先生!!!
This is a very clearly written and photographed tutorial. Thank you so much! It really helped to see the back side of the project too. My paper was a little thick and it's sort of a short & stubby kimono but otherwise I like it a lot! :)
Thank you!
I loved your instructions! They were so clear and easy to follow. My aunt just returned from Japan and bought me some origami paper! It's the exact paper you used in your demo! Thanks for sharing such clear easy instructions!
Aloha! Missy
Thank you for teaching me how to make the origami Kimono. I will make them and origami cranes to decorate at my friends birthday dinner. We are having an Asian influenced menu. I also enjoyed seeing your sewing projects. I am teaching myself how to knit and sew. I just made aprons for my two neices, 3 and 7 years old. This is the first time I wrote on a blog.I do not have much computer experience. I am interested to see how someone does things I do, but from another part of the world. The paper you used for the Kimono is so different than what I have. You celebrate your neices birthday as I but the deocrations are different. It's fun to see the similarities and differences. Thank you for sharing.Christine (New Jersey,USA)
Cool story as for me. I'd like to read more about this theme. Thanx for posting that info.

Just made a lovely little origami kimono here in Australia, thanks to your great instructions. Tomorrow I'll be meeting a friend and creating some with patchwork fabrics. That should be fun too. Thanks!
